Ford's 1.0L EcoBoost to now deliver 140PS; expect Fiesta to get one!

Ford updates its highly acclaimed, 2 times International engine of the year, 1.0 liter EcoBoost, developing 140PS (138bhp). Ford claims it to be the most powerful 1.0 liter engine in the world especially in a production spec car, 'more power-per-liter than a Bugatti Veyron'. The updated turbo motor debuts with the Fiesta Red and Black edition in Europe.

However, Ford India is about to introduce the updated Fiesta (diesel only), we can expect this updated 1.0L EcoBoost engine to land in Fiesta in near future, fingers crossed! Currently in India , only EcoSport possesses EcoBoost engine. As Fiesta in Europe debuts, it gets the upgraded 1.0 L EcoBoost; we can expect a similar story with Indian Fiesta. The EcoSport gets the 125PS (123bhp) version of the EcoBoost in India, while in Europe this engine is also available in 100PS (98bhp) version.

Andrew Fraser, manager, Gasoline Calibration, Ford of Europe, commented “This new 140PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine now delivers more than twice the power on a liter-for-liter basis than its predecessor – the 1.6-litre 100PS engine that powered the sporty Fiesta S just 10 years ago,” he further added, “I believe this engine sets a new benchmark for power combined with fuel efficiency from a small petrol engine.”

The magic of 12 per cent improvement in power figures is courtesy of a unique calibration, revamped setting for - turbocharger boosts control, inter-cooler, valve-timings and throttle management. Thanks to all this, Fiesta now sprints from 0-100kmph in 9.0 seconds before topping out at 201kmph! We all know power doesn't come cheap and hampers mileage; defying it Ford claims a fuel efficiency of 22kmpl! And a C02 emission of 104 grams per kilometer.

Recent trend around the world is to downsize the engines and excavate best possible power output from each and every single drop of gas, to from a minuscule engine block. The most powerful ever 1.0 liter EcoBoost will definitely help the company to outshine its rivals both in terms of power and efficiency.

Few years back, Ford used to sell Fiesta with 1.6 liter naturally aspirated engine globally, even the Classic petrol in India still comes with this engine. The 140PS 1.0 liter EcoBoost defeats the Ford's 1.6 liter and even the current 1.5 liter petrol in EcoSport both in terms of power and efficiency, but it looses on only one front – guess?
