The sub-4m sedan has the same engines as the hatchback it’s based on

  • The Aspire is a sub-4m sedan based on the Figo hatchback.

  • It gets the same engine options: 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel units.

  • Ford will offer the Aspire with the same 6-speed AT introduced on the Figo.

  • It’s the only one in its segment to not be offered with an automatic option as of now.

  • The premium over the manual variant could be the same as it is for the Figo - Rs 93,000.

The Ford Aspire is the sub-4m sedan version of the Figo hatchback. Since Ford has reintroduced the petrol-automatic transmission option on the Figo, it’s only a matter of time before it is offered with the Aspire as well.

Ford Figo Petrol Automatic Relaunched, Prices Start From Rs 7.75 Lakh

The Aspire gets the same engine options as the Figo so when Ford discontinued the 1.5-litre petrol unit, the sedan lost its automatic option too. The Figo’s 96PS/119Nm 1.2-litre petrol engine now gets the choice of a 6-speed torque converter automatic featuring a ‘Sports’ mode with manual shifts. It also adds remote engine start to the feature list. We’ve experienced this petrol-automatic powertrain ourselves so both the Figo and Aspire should offer similar performance.

Ford offers the Aspire in just two trims: Titanium and Titanium+. The Figo’s automatic option adds a premium of Rs 93,000 over the corresponding manual variant. Here’s how that would affect the Aspire’s petrol pricing:

Variants

Petrol-Manual

Expected premium

Petrol-AT (expected)

Titanium

Rs 7.27 lakh

Rs 93,000

Rs 8.20 lakh

Titanium+

Rs 7.62 lakh

Rs 93,000

Rs 8.55 lakh

The Aspire may seem dated in comparison to its segment rivals but it does get features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, auto AC, FordPass connected car tech, and push-button engine start. Its safety tech includes a rearview camera and segment-first up to six airbags.

Ford’s sub-4m sedan rivals the likes of the Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura, and Tata Tigor. All its competitors offer automatic transmission options, with AMTs for the Dzire, Aura, and Tigor. The Amaze gets a CVT automatic with both its petrol and diesel engines. This means the Aspire would be the only one in the segment with a torque converter automatic.
