Unlike other compact SUVs, the Citroen C3 Aircross is available in both 5- and 7-seater (with removable third-row seats) layouts

The Citroen C3 Aircross is the latest entrant into the compact SUV space in India, which was unveiled in April 2023. Now, after a long wait of almost 6 months, Citroen has revealed the full price list of the SUV. It is available in three broad variants – You, Plus, and Max –  and can be had in both 5- and 7-seater variants. Let’s see how its price fares against its rivals.

Since the C3 Aicross is only offered with a petrol-manual powertrain, we’ve only compared it with prices of the petrol-manual variants of its rivals. For your reading convenience, we have divided this price comparison into two tables. Let's begin with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder.

  • The affordability of the Citroen C3 Aircross is one of its biggest USPs and as such it has the lowest starting price in the segment by close to a lakh. It also has the most affordable top-end variant while most rivals cross the Rs 19 lakh mark for their fully loaded variants.

  • The top-spec Max variant of the C3 Aircross is more affordable than the mid-spec S variant of the Hyundai Creta by over a lakh. Meanwhile, the Kia Seltos has the highest starting price here, but the HTK+ variant costs Rs 1.5 lakh more than the top-spec 5-seater variant of the Citroen SUV.

  • The mid-spec Maruti Grand Vitara Delta manual variant is only Rs 10,000 more expensive than the 5-seater Max variant of the Citroen C3 Aircross. However, the difference increases to Rs 61,000 when considering the mid-spec S manual variant of the Toyota Hyryder.

  • The base variants of these rivals still undercut the prices of the mid-spec C3 Aircross.

  • The Citroen SUV is offered with only a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine (110PS/190Nm), paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, all the rivals mentioned above come with multiple engine and gearbox options.

  • The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos’ 1.5-litre engine puts out 115PS and 144Nm, mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic, but they are priced way higher than top-spec Citroen C3 Aircross.

  • The 1.5-litre mild-hybrid variants of the Grand Vitara and Hyryder put out 103PS and 137Nm, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

  • The one-above-base Honda Elevate V is priced closest to the Max variant of the C3 Aircross. However, for the more equipped second-from-top VX variant of the Elevate, customers will need to spend up to Rs 1.5 lakh more over the top-spec 5-seater Max variant of the Citroen SUV.

  • The Super manual variant of the MG Astor costs Rs 53,000 more than the 5-seater Max variant of the Citroen C3 Aircross.

Volkswagen Taigun

  • The Taigun and Kushaq’s 1-litre turbo variants produce 115PS and 178Nm, which is 5PS more and 12Nm less than the Citroen C3 Aircross’ 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. This Skoda-VW engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic. The VW-Skoda also get the choice of a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine for a lot more money.

  • The Elevate only comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, making 121PS and 145Nm, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic.

  • MG offers the Astor with two engine options: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.3-litre turbo petrol. However, the variants priced similar to the C3 Aircross only get the former. The 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 110PS and 144Nm, and it can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission.

Conclusion

The Citroen C3 Aircross is the most affordable compact SUV in the segment with just the one petrol-manual powertrain on offer. It is lacking many premium features compared to all of its rivals. However, a significant advantage of the Citroen SUV is that it offers both 5- and 7-seater layouts. If you’re planning to get a Citroen C3 Aircross, which variant are you going for?
