Maruti S-Presso Petrol-Automatic Mileage: Real vs Claimed

Maruti recently launched the S-Presso in India and like other small Maruti cars, it is available with only a petrol engine. The Indian carmaker is offering a choice between a manual and an AMT, and we recently tested the latter for fuel efficiency. Let’s take a look at the engine specs, the claimed fuel efficiency, and the actual fuel efficiency of the S-Presso we tested:

From the numbers, it’s clear that the fuel efficiency of the tested S-Presso is quite similar to what is claimed by Maruti. This is surprising as generally manufacturer-claimed fuel efficiency figures are hard to achieve in real-world conditions.

Now, let’s take a look at the fuel efficiency you can expect from the AMT version of the S-Presso, depending upon your usage:

The difference between the scenarios given above is not very different. However, you can expect the AMT S-Presso to return a fuel efficiency of above 21 kmpl, when driven majorly on the highway. If driven majorly in the city, its efficiency will drop down to 20 kmpl and if your usage includes an equal mix of both, you can expect the S-Presso to return close to 21 kmpl.

While we have mirrored the real-world driving style as closely as possible during our testing, the actual fuel efficiency your car gives depends on various factors such as driving style, the kind of traffic you encounter, and how well maintained the car is.
