VW Polo GTI

Volkswagen has showcased the Polo GTI hot-hatch on the second media day of the Indian Auto Expo vis-à-vis today. There have been reports, which state that this particular hot-hatch will be launched in September. Once launched, the car will rival the current juggernaut in the segment, the Abarth Punto Evo. Abarth’s offering was launched last year and was manufactured locally. The German automaker’s offering on the other hand, will be brought in as a CBU (Completely Built Unit).

The Polo GTI easily stands out of the crowd, as it comes in a three door-layout, unlike the standard hatchback. To keep things in perspective, even the current formidable contender of the hot-hatchback segment, the Abarth Punto Evo shares the 4-door layout with the standard Punto Evo hatchback and relies on sporty decals to exude its performance-oriented appeal.

Aesthetic highlights of the Polo GTI include LED headlights, which encase LED daytime running lights, a redesigned front bumper, LED tail lamps and twin exhaust outlets.

On the inside, occupants will get features like a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which comes with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. This will provide the convenience of pairing both Android and iOS based smartphones with the entertainment system. Other interior highlights include a sportier flat-bottom steering wheel and sports seats.

Under the hood, Polo GTi features VW’s 1.8-liter TSi turbocharged petrol motor, which produces a whopping 192PS of power and 250Nm of peak torque. This powerplant blows Fiat’s offering out of the water. The 1.8-litre unit comes coupled to a 7-Speed DSG dual-clutch automatic.
