Toyota says it has halted bookings of the Rumion CNG so as to keep waiting times in check for the SUV which has been facing “excessive demand.”

Toyota Rumion

  • Toyota introduced the Maruti Ertiga-based Rumion in India in August 2023.

  • The MPV is offered in three broad variants: S, G and V.

  • Toyota has provided the Rumion with an 88PS 1.5-litre petrol+CNG powertrain.

  • Its features set includes manual AC, keyless entry and dual front airbags.

  • Petrol variants are still available for bookings.

The Maruti Ertiga-derived Toyota Rumion, launched here in August 2023, is sold in three broad variants: S, G and V. Being a cross-badged product, the MPV got the same powertrain options, including the optional CNG kit. However, Toyota has temporarily stopped taking bookings for the CNG variant of the Rumion due to excessive demand leading to high wait times. That said, bookings for the petrol variants are still ongoing.

Toyota’s Statement On The Matter

“We launched the all-new Toyota Rumion in August this year and have received an overwhelming response from our customers who have been waiting for a Toyota vehicle in the B-MPV segment. We are heartened to see the increasing inflow of enquiries and healthy bookings for the all-new Toyota Rumion. The demand has surpassed our expectations, resulting in a long delivery time across variants, especially for the CNG option. This has necessitated us to temporarily halt bookings of the CNG option only to avoid customer inconvenience due to a longer waiting period. However, we continue to accept bookings for the petrol variants of the Toyota Rumion.”

A Brief Of The Rumion CNG

Toyota Rumion

Toyota offers the Rumion CNG in just the one base-spec S variant, unlike its donor vehicle which is available in two trims. The Rumion S CNG is equipped with features such as halogen projector headlights and LED taillights, full wheel covers, manual AC, a 4-speaker music system, and keyless entry.

Passenger safety is taken care of by dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts (second row only), electronic stability programme (ESP), and hill-hold assist. This CNG MPV is priced at Rs 11.24 lakh and has no direct rivals other than its donor model, the Maruti Ertiga CNG.

Powertrain Overview

The Toyota Rumion S CNG is powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol engine as the regular variants, but here this unit makes 88PS and 121.5Nm with the greener fuel. It comes paired with a 5-speed MT and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.11km/kg.

In the regular petrol variants, it produces 103PS and 137Nm, and also gets an optional 6-speed automatic transmission.

Similar Incident In The Past

This isn’t the first time that Toyota has temporarily halted bookings for one of its MPVs. Back in August 2022, Toyota stopped taking orders for the diesel-powered Innova Crysta, only to re-open them following the launch of the MPV’s facelifted version in early 2023.
