The Astor Black Storm edition could get an all-black exterior treatment with red highlights inside and out

MG Astor

  • MG to launch the Astor Black Storm edition tomorrow.

  • New teaser gives a glimpse of its redesigned blacked out grille and fog lamps.

  • Exterior revisions could include red accents on the ORVMs and brake callipers.

  • Inside, it could get red ambient lighting and accents on the dashboard and steering wheel.

  • No changes expected to its features list; it gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen and ADAS.

  • Should be provided with the option of the same 1.5-litre petrol and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engines as the standard model.

It looks like the MG Astor will be following in the footsteps of its biggest brother, the MG Gloster, as it will also get a Black Storm edition. To jog your memory, it is a blacked-out special edition of MG SUVs. The latest teaser confirms that the Astor Black Storm edition will arrive tomorrow.

What Does The Teaser Show?

The short video gives us a glimpse at the Astor Black Storm’s front fascia and its fog lamps. While not much can be decoded for now, it is enough to understand that the compact SUV’s chrome elements are likely to be finished in black (check the revised honeycomb grille). MG could also give it the same treatment as the Gloster Black Storm edition, which comes with some red inserts in the headlight clusters and red highlights on the ORVMs and brake callipers.

Other Cosmetic Updates Expected

MG is also likely to provide it with a few “Black Storm” badges denoting the special edition. As the Gloster’s special edition, we can expect the Astor Black Storm to also get some changes on the inside including red ambient lighting, contrast red stitching on the upholstery and red accents on the steering wheel.

Feature Upgrades Unlikely

MG Astor Interior

Although the Astor Black Storm will look a bit different inside and out (thanks to the visual and badge upgrades), its equipment list isn’t likely to be tinkered with. MG has already packed the Astor to the gills with niceties such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, panoramic sunroof, cruise control and auto climate control.

Its safety net boasts of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), up to six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and electronic stability programme (ESP).

No Revisions Under The Hood

MG Astor

We don’t expect any changes to be made to the compact SUV’s powertrains for the special edition. The compact SUV comes with two petrol engine options: a 1.3-litre turbocharged unit (140PS/220Nm) and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated mill (110PS/144Nm). While the former is mated only to a 6-speed automatic, the latter gets 6-speed manual and CVT options.

Rivals

The MG Astor Black Storm edition’s direct rivals would be the Kia Seltos X-Line, Hyundai Creta Knight Edition, and the matte editions of the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
