The petrol version of MG’s compact SUV is due to arrive in its facelifted avatar

  • Upcoming MG ZS petrol was first showcased at Auto Expo 2020.

  • The facelifted model gets sharper front-end styling compared to the ZS EV currently on sale in India.

  • It will also get an updated cabin with a larger infotainment system and restyled climate controls.

  • The ZS petrol spied also had a panoramic sunroof like the ZS EV.

  • MG is expected to launch the ZS petrol SUV in India around early-2021 to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

MG Motor had brought a lot of cars to India for its Auto Expo showcase earlier this year. Among them was the petrol-powered version of the facelifted ZS. We already get the pre-facelift, pure EV version of this SUV but MG has plans to launch the petrol version too and now it has been spied testing in India.

As a facelifted model, the petrol ZS features cosmetic differences from the EV version in the form of sharper front-end styling with sleek new LED headlamps. In its UK avatar, the latest ZS also gets an updated cabin with a new 10.1-inch central display and a restyled climate control layout. Like the EV, the spied ZS petrol also had a panoramic sunroof. It could also get six airbags, auto AC and cruise control.

The ZS gets various engine options depending on the market but in India, MG is likely to offer it with a single engine only. It would likely be a new 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 160PS and 230Nm with the choice of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. The carmaker is expected to launch the petrol-powered ZS here in early-2021. This would be MG’s direct rival to the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Nissan Kicks with prices expected to range between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 15 lakh.
