Only the Hyundai Creta managed to cross the 10,000-unit mark in Diwali

The compact SUV segment is a popular space but it is not as contested as the sub-4m SUV segment. Most of the demand comes from the Korean siblings, the second-gen Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, both of which arrived in successive years. Except for the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra Scorpio, all other compact SUVs registered positive growth in their month-on-month (MoM) figures. Here’s how each SUV performed in November 2020:

Takeaways

Hyundai Creta

  • Although the Hyundai Creta witnessed a decline of over 14 percent in its MoM (month-on-month) figure, it continues its reign with a market share of more than 42 percent. It is the only one still recording five-figure sales with over 12,000 units in November.

  • The Kia Seltos stays in the second spot with a little over 9,200 units shipped as demand remains steady with a MoM increase of a little over 3 percent. Its year-on-year (YoY) market share has shot up by more than 31 percent, making it the only SUV in the segment to feature a positive YoY number.

  • The Mahindra Scorpio, with over 3,700 units shipped, has retained its third rank on the sales chart. It is the only model along with the Creta to see a downward shift in its MoM numbers but the drop was smaller, at just under 6 percent.

  • Maruti dispatched 351 additional units of the S-Cross compared to October 2020. Its MoM figure went up by nearly 14 percent.

Renault Duster

  • While Renault’s Duster registered sales of 416 units during this year’s Diwali season, its YoY figure has slipped by nearly 2.5 percent compared to the last year.

  • With a market share of a mere 0.55 percent, the Nissan Kicks takes the last spot on the November 2020 sales chart. However, its MoM figure witnessed the best positive growth of nearly 30 percent.

  • The segment will soon witness more competition from the Skoda VISION IN and VW Taigun SUVs that are expected to be launched by mid-2021.

  • Overall, the segment’s demand went down by 5 percent compared to October 2020 with total registered sales of 28,398 units.
