Honda had recently launched the BR-V in the country. With a third row of seating, the car takes on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster. If the carmaker sees enough potential in the Indian market, it might bring the HR-V to India in 2017.

Yoichiro Ueno, Honda Cars India’s president and CEO, has said that the SUV segment is the fastest-growing segment in the Indian auto market and if it observes further growth the company will address it by launching new models. The statement from the Honda official just reaffirms the fact that the popularity of high stance vehicles is on an all-time high. In 2015 alone we saw the introduction of around ten cars in this body style.

The HR-V’s front grille with two sharp ridges on the bonnet merging into it is reminiscent of the Honda CR-V’s facade. The spearhead shaped headlights combined with a hump shaped silhouette give the car a vibrant look. But the best looking angle for the HR-V is undoubtedly the rear three-quarter where the inclining roof meets the stylish tailgate.

Mechanical duties are carried out by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol unit with power figures quoted as 143PS/172Nm in the international variant. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT transmission. Honda might also borrow the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol mill from the Civic Coupe for the Indian market. It churns out an impressive power figure of 175PS and a peak torque of 220Nm. A 1.6-litre diesel mill is also on the cards. We hope the carmaker will soon clear the air over what engines it intends to introduce in our country.

With the HR-V Honda will be filling in the gap between the BR-V and the CR-V and, therefore, expect it to be priced somewhere around the Rs 16 lakh mark.
