BMW carved out a nice niche for itself with the Gran Turismo avatar of its popular 3 Series sedan. The facelift was unveiled globally a couple of months back, and the friendly folks from Bavaria have decided to pass the cake to India rather early. The 3GT facelift goes on sale today and is available in two diesel and one petrol variant. Here are the ex-showroom Delhi prices:

  • 320d Sport Line: Rs 43.30 lakh
  • 320d Luxury Line: Rs 46.50 lakh
  • 330i Luxury Line: 47.50 lakh

The Looks

BMW hasn't fiddled around too much with the design of the 3GT, that received mixed reactions, to begin with. It does look like a close relative of the sedan, right up to the point where the C-pillar dives into the notchback. Just like its sibling, the GT will get a pair of LED headlamps and taillamps, and new wheels to boot. The bumpers at either end get a few subtle revisions too. Needless to mention, the facelift will continue to sport those gorgeous frameless doors and the trademark kidney grille.

The Cabin

Not a lot of updates here either, as the automaker has focussed on making the experience better, and hasn't tried an all-new recipe. You get the familiar BMW cabin with a layout we've seen (and been used to) in the 3 Series sedan. Features include electrically adjustable seats, a powered sunroof, leather upholstery and BMW's iDrive system that handles everything from the audio to the navigation. The talking point is the large boot, which swallows 520 litres of luggage. The rear bench gets a 40:20:40 split too for added versatility. Fold it away altogether, and you get a whopping 1600 litres of cargo.

The Drive

The updated 3GT debuts with the bread and butter '20d' diesel variant, paired with an 8-speed ZF gearbox. The four-cylinder motor develops 190PS/400Nm and spins the rear wheels. BMW is also offering the petrol 330i which employs a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine. This variant delivers 252PS of power and 350Nm of torque, helping the 3GT execute the 0-100kmph sprint in 6.1 seconds! We will get our hands on the GT for a full review, so do stay tuned.

The 3GT slots in between the 3 Series and the 5 Series, and poses as a more practical (and slightly exclusive) alternative to its sedan siblings. While there are no direct rivals to the Gran Turismo, it will help the 3 Series take on the Audi A4 and the Mercedes C-Class.
