BMW has launched the facelifted 5 Series in India, and it is available in three variants. Bookings for the sedan are now underway. Here are the prices:

For starters, two things have happened with this mid-life update. First, the sedan has become costlier by up to Rs 2.80 lakh. Secondly, the previously offered base-spec 530i Sport has been withdrawn from the range. The facelifted 5 Series gets a host of cosmetic updates along with a bunch of new features. We’ll list the former first.

For 2021, BMW has provided the sedan with sleeker and revised LED headlights (adaptive matrix units with a 650-metre luminosity) with LED DRLs, flanking the wider and taller front grille. It also features a redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes.

From the side, the sedan is pretty much the same, save for the newly designed alloy wheels. At the back, it retains the wraparound LED tail lamps (now featuring blacked-out elements) in an L-shape pattern, a definitive 5 Series thing. Also, there are two new colour options: Phytonic Blue metallic and Bernina Grey.

Now we step inside. The facelifted 5 Series features a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a touchscreen infotainment system -- of the same size -- with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (now with BMW’s latest iDrive software for connected car tech and OTA updates). Other features include four-zone climate control, head-up display, ambient lighting, wireless charging, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and tyre pressure monitoring.

The 2021 5 Series comes with driver-assistance systems, including reverse assist and remote control parking. Passenger safety is secured by six airbags, vehicle stability control, cornering brake control, and front and rear parking sensors.

BMW has offered the facelifted sedan with the same engine options as the pre-facelift model. These are 2.0-litre turbo-petrol (252PS/350Nm), 2.0-litre diesel (190PS/400Nm), and 3.0-litre inline diesel (265PS/620Nm) units. All three are coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. There are five drive modes: Comfort, Sport, ECO PRO, Adaptive, and Sport+ (exclusive to the M trim).

The 5 Series rekindles its rivalries with the Audi A6, Volvo S90, and Mercedes Benz E-Class. BMW has announced that all online bookings made until July 24, 2021, will get benefits on the M Sport variant, including up to a 50 percent discount on a range of exclusive M Performance accessories.
