Zest from Tata Motors: Variants, Features & Prices

Leading Indian auto manufacturer Tata Motors on Tuesday ended its four-year product launch drought, and introduced Zest, a sub-four meter compact sedan priced at INR 4.64 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The cheapest offering in its category, the car competes against the likes of Maruti Suzuki DZire, Honda Amaze, and the recently-launched Hyundai Xcent.

Offered in both petrol and diesel avatars, the petrol variants get the new 1.2-litre Revotron mill, while the the diesel trims comes equipped with the familiar 1.3-litre Quadrajet motor in two states of tune – 74 bhp and 89 bhp. The less-powered mill is just available on the base XE, whereas rest get the same 89 bhp state. Except a single diesel Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), all other variants comes with a common five-speed manual gearbox. The ARAI tested mileage of the petrol model is 17.6 Km/l, while the diesel trim delivers 23 Km/l.

The Zest is available in a total of five trim level – XE, XM, XMA, XMS, XT, with the petrol car skipping the XMA (AMT-equipped) trim, as Tata has provided AMT just with the diesel.

Variant-wise features:

XE (Petrol - INR 4.64 Lakh & Diesel – INR 5.64 Lakh)

Considering the competitive pricing, the base XE variant gets fair amount of equipment such as 16-inches alloys, tilt adjustable power steering, air-conditioner with a heater option, front power windows, manual central locking, foldable key and engine immobilizer. However, it misses an audio system and all the safety features.

XM (Petrol- INR 5.25 Lakh & Diesel- INR 6.27 Lakh)

The second variant carries all the features of the XE, plus gets a ConnectNext infotainment system from Harman with four speakers and tweeters, with radio, Bluetooth, USB, aux and iPod connectivity, and audio and telephony controls on the tilt adjustable steering. Rear power windows, electrically adjustable OVRMs, remote central locking, projector headlamps, front and rear fog lamps are some other features that are offered in this variant. In terms of safety, the XM variant also gets ABS with EBD.

XMA (AMT equipped Diesel - INR 6.99 Lakh)

Its the country's first AMT equipped diesel car, that comes with the 89bhp-1.3-litre diesel mill mated to a five-speed AMT gearbox and it gets the same features as on the XM trim.

XMS (Petrol- INR 5.43 Lakh & Diesel INR 6.45 Lakh)

Zest's this variant is the most affordable car in the segment to get ABS and airbags as standard. Except this, the variant offers the same equipment level as on the above trim.

XT (Petrol- INR5.99 Lakh & Diesel - INR 6.99 Lakh)

The top-of-the-line variant is loaded with goodies and features. It gets a touchscreen infotainment system with an SD card reader and voice recognition. Additionally, there's a rear defogger, LED daytime-running lights, fully automatic temperature control and rear parking sensors.
