Toyota Camry coming this August
At the commencement ceremony of exports of Toyota Etios and Toyota Liva, the Deputy Managing Director, Marketing of Toyota Kirloskar Motors, Mr. Sandeep Singh revealed some important things about the future of Toyota Camry, Lexus and Avanza in India. Mr.Singh stated that the mid-sized sedan Toyota Camry will be assembled in India at the company’s Bangalore factory.

The production will start by the end of July and the company will roll out the new car in the month of August. The company does not have a diesel engine for any model of Toyota Camry across the globe. The prices of this car are going to be impacted the hike in excise duty recently announced in the union budget 2012-13.

Regarding Avanza Mr. Singh mentioned that the all countries like Japan, Bangkok and Indonesia have got their own plan but Toyota does not have Avanza planned for its Indian portfolio. When asked about a sub 4-meter sedan to be positioned between Liva and Etios, he replied that the sub 4-meter length cannot do justice to the sedan car concept and it surely can not meet the customers’ requirements. Sub 4-meter length is good for a hatchback but not sedan.

Regarding Lexus, Mr. Singh mentioned that the company is carrying on feasibility study for Lexus in India; this is a comprehensive study which will take time and has involved a separate division. Nothing regarding the launch dates and models have been finalized yet, he added.
