Toyota India has extended the battery warranty of its self-charging hybrid electric vehicles, the Camry and Vellfire, from 3 years/1 lakh kilometres to 8 years/1.6 lakh kilometres, whichever comes earlier.

This new warranty will apply to all new models sold from August 1. Meanwhile, buyers that have purchased the Camry or Vellfire after January 2019 can also avail this benefit at a special offer price. Toyota claims this is the highest warranty period offered in the industry.

The Toyota Vellfire and Camry are among the brand’s flagship vehicles in India. The Camry gets a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor, to produce a combined output of 218PS and 221Nm. The sedan is claimed to offer a mileage of 23.87kmpl.

The Vellfire gets a 2.5-litre petrol engine with two electric motors (one for each axle), paired to a CVT. The engine makes 116PS and 198Nm, along with the front electric motor producing 143PS and the rear, 68PS. It is claimed to offer a mileage of 16.35kmpl.

While the Camry is priced at Rs 40.59 lakh, the Vellfire retails at Rs 90 lakh. The sedan rivals the Skoda Superb while the MPV goes up against the Mercedes Benz V-Class.
