    The Tata Harrier EV has recently been crash tested by Bharat NCAP where it has attained a 5-star crash safety rating. This has made it one of the safest EVs to be crash tested by the indigenous agency, alongside its Mahindra rivals, the XEV 9e and BE 6. While we have already compared the Harrier EV’s crash test results and scores with the XEV 9e, how does it compare with the BE 6? Let us find out.

    Let us now take a look at how both India-made eSUVs fared in their respective Bharat NCAP crash tests:

    The Tata Harrier EV scored full points in the adult occupant protection test, thanks to all the parts of the driver and co-driver receiving ‘good’ protection. In the side movable deformable barrier test too, all parts of the occupant got ‘good’ protection.

    In the child occupant protection tests, the Harrier EV scored full 8 out of 8 and 4 out of 4 points in the frontal and side crash tests, respectively, for both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies. However, it failed to score full points in COP due to a loss of points in the vehicle assessment test, where it fetched 9 out of 13 points.

    In the frontal offset deformable barrier tests, while all body parts of the co-driver received ‘good’ protection, safety to the driver’s right tibia was rated ‘adequate’. Other parts of the driver, including the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, thighs, feet and left tibia were rated ‘good’.

    The BE 6 had a similar performance as the Harrier EV in the side movable deformable barrier test, with ‘good’ protection to all parts of the occupant.

    In the child occupant protection tests, the Mahindra BE 6 scored full points for the frontal and side protection of both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies. However, like the Tata rival, it lost points in the vehicle assessment score, leading to reduced points (45 out of 49).

    Key Takeaways

    While both EVs had a similar performance in the side movable deformable barrier test, the BE 6 got a lower ‘adequate’ protection to the driver’s right tibia in the frontal offset deformable barrier test. In comparison, all parts of the driver were rated ‘good’ in this crash test.

    The COP scores of both EVs are also similar, with full points in all the tests involving the two child dummies. However, both lost points in the vehicle assessment score, leading to a reduced overall score.

    Both the Tata Harrier EV and Mahindra BE 6 are equipped with 7 airbags (6 as standard), front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera with blind spot monitor, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), dual-camera dashcam and Level-2 ADAS features. 

    In addition to this, the Tata Harrier EV features a digital inside rearview mirror (IRVM) and a transparent bonnet feature, both of which are not offered with the Mahindra BE 6.
