Skoda India breaks suspense, announces Skoda Lauretta as its new sedan
All speculations about Skoda Rapid being Skoda India's upcoming sedan comes to an end as paparazzi capture Skoda Lauretta which is produced by Volkswagen group. Automakers are on their toes for the highly competitive C-segment cars and Skoda India is not an exception. The new mid-sized sedan Skoda Lauretta is believed to be launched by October at a price of about 6.5 lakh tagged below sister car Volkswagen Vento.

The new Skoda Lauretta specifications reveal that the car will adorn a 1.6 litre petrol engine with 105 bhp power, same as its role model car Volkswagen Vento. Even the diesel variant will carry a 1.6 litre diesel engine with 105 bhp, unsurprisingly same as Volkswagen Vento. According to Volkswagen , the 1.6 litre DOHC diesel engine on the Volkswagen Vento can deliver 20.5 km per litre.

The auto news was bustling with 'Rapid' as the probable name of this sedan but the company finalised it to be Lauretta, may be because the name Rapid is quite similar to Rapide by Aston Martin. Volkswagen group is known to share a many of its auto parts with its cars and thus, Skoda Lauretta will share a lot of auto parts with Volkswagen Vento.

The front design of the car is much like Skoda Fabia but the car would not be a notch back. Instead the car is thought to fill the void created by the absence of Skoda Octavia.
