The facility was inaugurated by Takashi Hata, Senior Vice President Nissan Motor Co., Ltd and Chairman of Nissan’s Africa, Middle East and India region. Covering a massive 17,000 square foot area, the headquarters is located in the Equinox Business Park, Kurla (west) and is the manufacturer's second largest office in the country after the main corporate headquarters in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Speaking at the occasion, Kenichiro Yomura, President – Nissan India Operations, said, “We have implemented significant improvements to our business structure in India. As a result, Nissan Motor India Private Ltd has assumed full responsibility for the sales, marketing and distribution of all Nissan and Datsun-branded vehicles and parts in India. The inauguration of our sales & marketing headquarters in Mumbai is a key step to help expand our reach and visibility to our customers in this very important growth market. Our Chennai office will continue to be the nodal hub for Nissan Group operations in India as it is located close to our manufacturing and R&D centers. Mumbai is important for us from a business point of view offering us better reach to our pan-India stakeholders. We now plan to further increase our local footprint by setting up additional operations in strategic locations across India.”

"This appointment supports the recently announced changes to our India operations and will enable us to continue delivering strong results and growth towards achievement of the Nissan Power 88 mid-term plan. The Nissan India team is continuing to strengthen its focus on ensuring high product quality and customer satisfaction, while improving both brand and product value with our dealer network," he added.

Initially, workforce of only 50 will be based in Mumbai headquarters which will be responsible for all sales, marketing and dealer management activities. Later the company plans to expand its workforce to around 150 employees. It currently houses sales, marketing, communications and dealer management teams for both Nissan and Datsun brands.

Apart from this Mumbai facility, Nissan has also established a regional office in Delhi as a part of a wider strategy to expand its local presence and reach in India. Additional regional bases will be established in other major cities in the near future.
