The premium 5-seater SUV gets an all-new design inside and out

  • New Tucson teased ahead of global unveiling on September 15.

  • It has a distinctive design and is the first in its segment to be offered in two wheelbase sizes depending on the market.

  • The Tucson gets a futuristic grille design with integrated LED DRLs.

  • Interior sketch reveals a large central display and uncluttered dashboard layout.

  • India is likely to get the long-wheelbase version in 2022.

The current-generation Hyundai Tucson has been around since 2015 and the new fourth-generation model is due to be unveiled on September 15. The carmaker has now given us a teaser of the new-gen Tucson SUV’s design.

Hyundai has taken its design to the next stage with the fourth-gen Tucson and for the first time, it will be offered in standard and extended wheelbase depending on the country. The carmaker calls its new styling ‘Parametric Dynamics’. Its front fascia features an interesting jewel-like design for the grille which also integrates the LED daytime running lights. These DRLs are only visible when switched on. When off, they look like they’re simply part of the grille. The headlamps are positioned a bit lower on the bumper.

Overall, the new Tucson’s body shape looks more agile than the current model and this is reflected in the details. It has a double-fang design for its tail lamps that are connected by a light bar. The Hyundai badge is positioned above the light bar. Hyundai has confirmed that the fourth-gen Tucson will be bigger and wider than the current model.

The dashboard has been teased in sketch form and it looks as futuristic as the exterior design. Nothing outlandish, but it features numerous digital displays and an uncluttered layout. It has a sleek and elongated digital instrument cluster behind the modern Hyundai steering wheel. The driver and front passenger are separated by a broad central console with a Tesla-like large touchscreen central display. This bridge has a sculpted design as well, like a waterfall, instead of just being a large slab in the middle.

The all-new Tucson will be unveiled in its entirety later this month. Since we only recently got the facelifted third-gen Tucson SUV in India, we don’t expect this premium offering to arrive anytime before 2022. India is likely to get the long-wheelbase version of the new mid-size SUV. It will take on the likes of the Honda CR-V, Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 Aircross, Skoda Karoq and VW Tiguan.
