2026 MG Hector Hawk EV and Plug-in Hybrid Launch Date Confirmed

The wait has a date now. JSW MG Motor India says the Hector Hawk arrives on August 26, 2026, and it won't come in just one flavour. Buyers get to pick between a full electric setup or a plug-in hybrid. That dual approach means this SUV will be fighting on two fronts at once, going up against names like the Mahindra XEV 9E and Tata Harrier EV.

Exterior

Underneath, it's the Wuling Starlight 560 platform doing the work, and the Hector Hawk stretches out to 4.7 metres, long enough to sit in the same bracket as the XUV700 and Tata Safari.

MG hasn't shown final styling yet, but going by what the Starlight 560 looks like, expect a strong grille, sharper body lines, and LED treatment front and back. That "Hawk" name alone signals something bolder than the regular Hector.

Interior

Family-hauling is clearly the brief here three rows, seven seats. Front and centre is a 12.8-inch screen mounted vertically, running both infotainment and the AC controls.

The driver gets their own screen too, an 8.8-inch unit that can be set up to show different trip and driving info. All three rows should get charging points, and rear passengers get their own AC vents.

Given that this sits above the standard Hector in MG's range, don't be surprised if the materials step up a notch with softer plastics on the dash and doors, maybe leatherette seats once you get into the higher trims.

Features & Safety

If there's one thing MG doesn't skimp on, it's features, and the Hector Hawk should be no different. A big panoramic sunroof is part of the deal, which helps the cabin feel less closed in. Driver-assist tech is a given here, likely bringing adaptive cruise, lane-keeping, auto emergency braking, and blind-spot warnings along for the ride. Beyond that, expect the usual safety essentials including a full set of airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, a 360-degree camera, and ISOFIX anchors for child seats. Interestingly, the XUV700 shows up again here as a direct rival.

Powertrain Options

Rather than pick one lane, JSW MG will run both electric and plug-in hybrid under a single Hector Hawk name. Anyone chasing range gets pointed toward the EV; anyone who still wants a petrol backup gets the PHEV. Same badge, two very different driving experiences underneath. That expected 530 km figure on the EV puts it right up there among longer-range electrics in its price zone. Meanwhile, the PHEV's 125 km electric-only figure should be plenty for a normal daily commute without ever waking up the petrol engine. And with a combined 1,100 km on tap, road-trippers shouldn't need to think twice about range.

Launch Date, Expected Price And Rivals

A firm date is now on the calendar, so buyers finally know when to expect the Hector Hawk showroom-side. Word is pricing may kick off around Rs 18 lakh ex-showroom, which lands it against the Mahindra XEV 9S, Mahindra XEV 9E and Tata Harrier EV., which looks like the closest matchup, largely because both offer seven seats and a similar 530 km range claim. The PHEV, though, will be in a class of its own.

What sets the Hector Hawk PHEV apart is that 125 km electric-only figure, which should beat whatever either rival manages.

MG is clearly trying to push the Hector name upmarket with the Hawk, while still keeping some connection to the original. The two-powertrain strategy makes sense on paper. One option for range-focused buyers, another for those not ready to give up petrol entirely. A PHEV at this kind of price point isn't something you see often in India right now. Whether JSW MG can actually deliver on the numbers and pricing it's promising will decide how well the Hector Hawk holds up against what Tata and Mahindra bring to this segment.
