    Maruti Suzuki eVX spied

    • Maruti Suzuki debuted the eVX as a concept EV at the Auto Expo 2023.

    • The test mule had makeshift lights, ORVM-mounted side cameras and silver alloy wheels.

    • Inside, it sports connected screens and a new squared-off steering wheel.

    • Confirmed to get a 60kWh battery pack good for up to 550km of claimed range.

    • Launch expected by 2025; prices could start from Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Among all the concepts that debuted at the Auto Expo 2023, the Maruti eVX electric SUV had the most significance as it could be the carmaker’s first EV. While the launch is expected by 2025, Maruti Suzuki seems to have started development work on the production-spec eVX, as one of its prototype test mules was spied on test overseas recently.

What Do The Spy Shots Reveal?

Of course, the prototype has shed the unrealistic details that are key for a concept such as the ridiculous wheels and cameras for ORVMs. The spy images show the eVX covered in heavy black camouflage. It likely had makeshift headlights and taillights, along with a chrome bar on the grille like on the Maruti Grand Vitara and Fronx, and probably a big closed-off grille covered under the camouflage.

Similarities with the Fronx continue on the EV’s side profile as well, thanks to the pronounced shoulder lines and sloping roofline. The test mule was seen sporting silver-finished alloy wheels housed in muscular arches, rear pillar-mounted door handles, and ORVM-mounted side cameras suggesting the provision of a 360-degree camera. While its rear was hidden under heavy camouflage, it did show the wiper and connected LED lighting setup while the number plate is housed on the bumper.

    Cabin Details Seen

The images also give us a sneak peek into the cabin of the eVX. First thing that catches your attention is the connected screens setup, not seen on any Maruti Suzuki car in India, and the squared-off steering wheel with controls. Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice the long centre console running up to the dashboard and vertically stacked AC vents. There is also a big storage space under the lower central console. Zoom out a little and you’ll spot power adjustment for the driver seat.

    Electric Powertrain Details

Although not much is known about the production-spec eVX’ electric powertrain, Maruti Suzuki – at the Auto Expo 2023 – had revealed that it will come with a 60kWh battery pack suitable for a claimed range of up to 550km. It was also confirmed that the eVX will feature a dual-motor setup for a 4x4 drivetrain.

We expect Maruti Suzuki to launch the eVX in India by 2025 at a starting price of around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the likes of the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric, while being a premium alternative to the Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV Max.
