Maruti Suzuki Celerio Sales Cross 1 Lac Milestone

Celerio is the only car in the country to offer petrol, CNG, diesel along with manual and automatic transmission options!

Maruti Celerio has crossed 100,000 sales mark in the country, the hatchback was launched last year at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. It started the AMT - (Automated-Manual transmission) trend in the country and was once the cheapest automatic available. Last month, Maruti introduced diesel in the Celerio, their first-ever in-house developed oil burner. The diesel heart has made Celerio the most fuel efficient car in the country with 27.62 kmpl certified fuel economy.

Celebrating the landmark, Mr. RS Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We thank customers for their support to brand Celerio. Celerio is the first car in India to introduce the acclaimed Auto Gear Shift technology and almost one third of the sales are of the Auto Gear Shift variants. Customers appreciated the convenience of automatic gear shifting with no loss in fuel efficiency on Celerio and within a year of its launch Maruti Suzuki’s share in the lower hatchback has shot up to 71% from 61%.”

The recent buzz in Celerio is indeed the country’s most fuel-efficient diesel engine - the 2-cylinder, 793 cc diesel in Celerio DDiS generates a puny 47.6 bhp @ 3,500 rpm and peak torque of 125 Nm @ 2000 rpm. As of now, the engine is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox while on later stages Maruti might plonk an AMT with this diesel motor. The upcoming Tata Zica will be one of the strongest contender in this segment. Tata Zica Specifications look promising and could create an impact in the Indian Market.
