This safety feature will help drivers during their long road trips

  • The driver drowsiness detection feature works by monitoring steering wheel movement.

  • If the movement is irregular or not consistent, the system will nudge the driver to take a break and stop the car.

  • Till now, Mahindra has teased the auto-levelling headlamps, panoramic sunroof and the flush-door handles of the XUV700.

  • Will also feature ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), a 360-degree camera, twin display setup for the touchscreen infotainment system and instrument cluster, and a panoramic sunroof.

Mahindra has teased the XUV700 again, this time revealing its ‘Driver Drowsiness Detection’ feature. If the system senses that the driver is drowsy or falling asleep, it will automatically nudge the driver back to alertness.

This safety feature works on the basis of the driving style of the car, mostly detected by the irregularity in the steering wheel movement. The system will then play a notification sound alerting the driver to take a break and stop the car.

Till now, Mahindra has teased the high-beam assist, panoramic sunroof, and the flush-door handles of the XUV700.

Mainly, the XUV700 will feature ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), which might include the drowsiness detection feature, along with lane-keep assist, cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot detection. This will be a segment-first feature and you can read more about it here

The Mahindra XUV700 is also expected to feature a 360-degree camera, a twin display setup for the touchscreen and instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, full LED lighting, adaptive cruise control and dynamic turn indicators.

The Mahindra XUV700 will come with the Thar’s petrol and diesel engines, but tuned for higher output. In the Thar, the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol unit makes 150PS and up to 320Nm, while the 2.2-litre diesel generates 130PS and 300Nm. Mahindra will offer the SUV with both 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. A segment-exclusive optional all-wheel drive (AWD) will also be available.

It is expected to be revealed towards the end of July 2021, priced between Rs 16 lakh and Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom), rivaling the MG Hector PlusTata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar.
