JLR plans a 400-mn pound engine facility in UK

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), an entity owned by Tata Motors is growing leaps and bounds. JLR has planned to build an engine plant investing almost 400 million pounds in the UK. It is speculated that Jaguar Land Rover is considering to build an engine plant in India also. JLR's engines are currently supplied by Ford's plants based in the UK. The new plant is likely to take around two years to be built and will be able to employ up to 2,000 workers in UK. The engine plant will be based at the UK's i54 business park. JLR is expected to announce the engine plant as early as tomorrow alongside UK Business Secretary Vince Cable. It is also reported that UK's coalition government has offered around 10 million pounds of financial support for the Jaguar Land Rover’s engine plant.

However JLR foresees immense opportunities in booming Asian market also and wants to have a greater market share in engine production in the region. Jaguar Land Rover is gradually investing a jaw-dropping 1.5 billion pounds every year on its new products. The company has plans to ramp up the production at its plants in UK. Jaguar Land Rover aims to produce 5,00,000 vehicles per year at its 3 facilities in UK. The company has already hired 3,000 employees this year which comprise of 350 graduates. Jaguar Land Rover now employs almost 21,000 people in the UK.
