The Sonet’s looks are sure to grab eyeballs wherever it’s taken for a spin

Update (18/09/2020): Kia has launched the Sonet with prices beginning from Rs 6.71 lakh (ex-showroom). Read more about it here.

Kia has just revealed the production-spec Sonet that is expected to go on sale in late August. It is based on the Hyundai Venue’s platform but has a different design philosophy altogether. While the Venue gets a plain and simplistic design with straight lines, the Sonet doesn’t shy away from showing off its strong curves.

Here’s a look at its exterior in detailed pictures:

Front

The Sonet’s front bears a lot in common with its pre-production concept version that was showcased at Auto Expo 2020. As seen on the Seltos and other Kia models, the Sonet also features Kia’s signature tiger nose grille. It gets projector LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and red inserts in the front grille for the GT Line trim.

Kia has added vertical elements with chrome surround in the faux skid plate and mesh grille in the lower air dam. The front parking sensors are located right above the big air dam.

Headlamps

One of the key highlights of the Sonet’s front styling is its set of LED headlamps and the fang-shaped LED DRLs. These DRLs double up as turn indicators and are sure to look amazing at night.

The front fog lamps have vent-like housings on either side of the bumper. Kia is offering the projector fog lamp with halogen units. In this top spec, they also get a chrome surround for that added premium look.

Rear

The rear profile of the Sonet is simple and upright unlike its front. It gets LED tail lamps that are connected by a lighting bar. Kia has cleverly placed the rear parking camera in the lighting panel present on the tailgate.

The reflectors blend well (especially with the red shade of the Sonet) with the tall bumper. It also gets faux exhaust tips flanking the skid plate under the rear bumper.

Tail lamps

Kia is offering wraparound LED tail lamps with five bar-like units that are placed above the brake lights and turn indicators.

The ends of the light strip that runs across the connected taillamps mimics the fang-shaped DRLs up front. It is quite noticeable when seen from the side as well.

Wheels

The Sonet will get 16-inch alloy wheels with 215/60 cross-section tyres that fit well into those wheel arches. Its brake calipers have been finished in red to up the sportiness of the GT Line trim.

Side

When viewed from the side, it looks near identical to the concept model that debuted at the expo. The only changes come in the form of conventional door handles and more practical 16-inch alloy wheels. While its exact dimensions are yet unknown, it is expected to have the same wheelbase as the Venue and a fair amount of ground clearance as well.

While the Sonet has a tall stance, the windowline near the C-pillar has been designed in a way that accentuates its sportiness, highlighted by the dual-tone black roof. It even has a louvre-like design for the panels that flank the rear windshield.

Kia has made sure to include the little details that add to the vehicle’s profile such as the roof rails, cladding along the doors and around the wheel arches, and turn indicators on the outside rearview mirrors with the top half in gloss black. For GT Line, even the side cladding gets a red accent in the middle.
