Fiat to launch a new small car
Soon a small car from Fiat will be seen on the Indian roads. The company has confirmed that it is planning to bring a new small car in India by the year 2012. The new small car will be placed below Fiat Grande Punto and will be powered by a 1000cc engine. The company is planning to market the car as a volume product which will be priced Rs. 3 lakh and above. The new small car from Fiat will be powered by Multi-air technology and will be based on Uno platform, say the sources.

The new model will be the result of the joint effort by the Italian and Indian engineers of Fiat who will plan and design the car.
The company has already started phasing out Palio from the Indian market since the model failed to generate benefits for the company. At present, the small car of Fiat is the Fiat Grande Punto which is competing with models like Maruti Swift and Hyundai i20. Sources say that the new small car from Fiat will be priced in the lower sub-compact car segment and will compete with models like Maruti Alto, Hyundai Santro, Ford Figo and Chevrolet Beat. The final price and technical specifications of the new small car will be available at the time of its launch.
