Exclusive: Volvo S90 Confirmed for a 2017 Launch

Volvo will be bringing in its S90 model to India by 2017. Our sources affiliated to the Swedish automaker have confirmed the rumors of surrounding the luxury sedan. The 2014 Volvo S80 was rolled out as a replacement for the original S90. The original S90 sedan was a milestone in Volvo’s history as it was the last rear-wheel-drive car produced by the Swedish car manufacturer. For the last two generations, S80 has continued as a replacement, filling the void left by S90’s luxurious legacy.

Recently, images of S90’s scale size model were leaked online. These images showcased the confirmed design of Volvo’s upcoming offering. The images revealed, what will be considered as yet another milestone in Volvo’s lineage, but this time in context of the company’s design approach. Rumors are the upcoming S90 will be company’s top-of-the-range model. The car draws various design cues from Volvo’s Concept coupe, which include Volvo's signature rectangular grille and signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED daytime-running lights. The sedan will feature Hauler’s design language and an interior packed with the latest technology and drapped in luxurious feature, courtesy of Volvo R&D.

The S90 will probably feature engines that find their application in the new XC90. The power-plant is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine. Over the course of time, the car may also feature the T8 hybrid system. The car will also be used to provide the foundation for a station wagon variant, which will be called a V90 wagon. V90 will hit showrooms after the S90 sedan gets its global launch next year. The car will fall in the price range of the likes of Audi A6, the BMW 5 series, Mercedes E-class but would compete with Mercedes S class, BMW 7 series and Audi A8.
