Best Car at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Mercedes-Benz 680S Torpedo
The Pebble Beach Concour d’Elegance annual event, first conducted in 1950, is termed as the world’s premier celebration of the automobile with a collection of the most beautiful and rare automobiles are invited and showcased. This year the honor for the Best in Show was awarded to a 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Saoutchik Torpedo, powered by a 6.8-litre supercharged engine.

Jacques Saoutchik, the French coach builder designed the winning 680S Torpedo that is currently owned by Paul and Judy Andrews of White Settlement, Texas. Before this 7 other Mercedes-Benz had taken the best in show at the annual event. The last one to take the accolade was in 2001.
The Mercedes was chosen from 220 cars that were on display. There were 11 other Saoutchik cars as well amongst the ones showcased. Commenting on the car, the owner, Paul Andrews, in conversation with the Los Angeles Times said that they wanted the car to be as original as it could possibly be and they spared no expense to get it to be absolutely correct.
