Renault-Nissan's deal with Bajaj Auto didn't fall apart as yet says the Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, Anand Bajaj. At the 2012 Auto Expo in India, Bajaj Auto displayed their break-through in developing what was supposed to be a car emerging out with an extremely low-cost Bajaj RE60 instead. The four-wheeler weighing mere 400kg in weight and an exemplary mileage of 35 kmpl, the Indian commerical vehicle manufacturer has shown what a domestic auto manufacturer could do to make a smashing comeback.

Bajaj Auto has been under trmemdous pressure ever since 2007 when the deal was formed between the trio of auto manufacturers where the former was given the responsibility to develop an ultra low cost car and the latter would take care of the marketing part though with strings attached. Renault India's chief Mark Nassif was straight to the point saying that the locally developed car will have to meet the high standards of the global car manufacturers in order to keep the partnership intact. Now that Bajaj Auto is all set with the compact Bajaj RE60 in hand, the auto major doesn't seem to be too interested in impressing its two clients maintaining its stance as a commercial vehilce manufacturer all the while.

Bajaj Auto even refuses to call the RE60 a car though the three-four seater has immense capacity to put the biggest players in the segment to shame sporting the 200cc engine meant to be offered in petrol/CNG and LPG options with a highly compettitive Bajaj RE60 price around Rs 1.8 lakh. The battle between the trio is now heated up and would be interesting to see how the situation unfolds which will surely depend on both the parites involved. It Renault-Nissan gives the green-signal then would the new Bajaj car be pitted against Tata Nano and likes in the domestic car market or Bajaj would like continue to attach itself with the commercial manufacturer tag.
