The Slavia Sportline is available with two turbo-petrol engine options, while the Honda City Sport comes solely with a naturally-aspirated petrol unit
At a price where the market is dominated by practical SUVs, sedans add a hint of sportiness and stand distinguished, especially the ones that have been tweaked to look more athletic and appealing. The recently launched Honda City Sport and the Skoda Slavia Sportline are two such sedans that come with the sporty flavour, majorly due to the cosmetic changes that they offer over their standard versions.
In this report, we compare the design, features, powertrain, and pricing of the City Sport and Slavia Sportline.
Design
As mentioned above, both City Sport and Slavia Sportline are essentially just sportier and cooler versions of the regular cars.

The fascia of both these cars have been given a stealthy touch with the presence of a black grille instead of the chrome finish. In the City, you get halogen headlights whereas the Slavia sports LED headlights for a more upmarket feel. The fog lamps of both get a black garnish to round off the front end design.
In profile, the City gets 15-inch grey alloy wheels while the Slavia comes with larger 16-inch alloy wheels that have been blacked-out for a sportier effect. Continuing with the theme, you get black ORVMs as well in both cars.

Moving to the rear end, the Slavia has a stealthier vibe with darkened LED tail lights and black ‘Skoda’ and ‘Slavia’ lettering as well. The City Sport simply gets a Sport badge and City lettering, both finished in chrome. The common element remains the black lip spoiler which completes the sportiness quotient of both the sedans.
Coming to the interior, you will realize that the Honda’s cabin clearly has the more sporty vibe. The City comes with an all-black interior theme with red accents on the dashboard for contrast. Moreover, its steering wheel and leatherette seats also get red stitching. The Slavia’s cabin comes with the standard black and beige look which is identical to the one on the regular version. The seats here too are fabric, unlike the higher-spec variants of the Slavia. The City comes with ambient lighting as well, wherein you can set the red colour option to amp up the sportiness even more. The Slavia Sportline, on the other hand, gets single-colour ambient lighting that can’t be changed.

The City Sport is powered by a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine, while the Slavia can be opted for with either a 1-litre turbo petrol unit or a more potent 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The City delivers more power than the Slavia’s smaller engine, but appears to be underpowered when compared to the Skoda’s larger unit. The City only comes with a CVT, which isn’t really enthusiast-friendly and a manual transmission would have clearly been a better choice for the Sport version.

Verdict
The new Honda City Sport and the Skoda Slavia Sportline are both good options to consider if you want a car that stands out with a sporty design. The City’s interior too feels more unique with an all-black look, but it is the Slavia which comes with the more potent engine option. So if you are okay with a sporty-looking car that offers a smooth and consistent driving experience, then the City would be for you.
However, if you want something that’s actually quick and provides a more fun-to-drive experience, then you could go with the Slavia Sportline.
So, if you had to choose, which one would you go for? Let us know in the comments.
