Audi unveils quattro with ultra technology

Audi has been proudly capitalising on its rally winning heritage for years now and rightly so. Now, the German automaker has unveiled an updated version of its rally-winning all wheel drive quattro system. The company claims that this update will provide the perfect balance between the on-demand AWD system and and permanent 4X4 configuration. The system dons the moniker ‘Audi quattro with Ultra technology’ and what this system does is that it utilises an array of sensors, which sends the data they collect to a processor that will configure the power delivery to the four wheels as it sees fit. For instance, the system will configure the car to be FWD if it senses that the car is light on load and in case the car starts losing traction, the system will engage the rear axle, as well. The data collected by these sensors includes, the driver’s driving preferences, style and the road conditions available.

The Audi quattro with Ultra technology enhances the overall fuel-economy of the car and company claims that an quattro-enabled Audi will feature fuel consumption that has been reduced by 0.3litre/100 km. Commenting on this innovation, the company officially stated, “optimized for efficiency with no discernible differences to permanent systems with respect to traction and driving dynamics.” Not only does this system improve the overall handling characteristics of the car, which in turn improves its performance but the Audi quattro with Ultra technology also helps reduce the car’s carbon footprint by decreasing the car’s emissions substantially and seen how Audi’s parent company Volkswagen has been in a tricky situation, courtesy of Dieselgate, this is a particularly smart move made by the German automaker.
