Nissan has shut down rumours about exiting the Indian market and has confirmed it's on course with the launch timeline of its upcoming products
Rumours of Nissan leaving India have been quashed by the carmaker’s Managing Director, Saurabh Vatsa, who said, “We are here to stay” in a roundtable conference. Along with that announcement, the carmaker said it is on track to introduce three new models and has announced the launch timelines for the same.
With just two cars in its current portfolio – the Nissan Magnite and the pricey importedNissan X-Trail – Nissan needs more mass-market models to get a grip in the Indian market. And the carmaker has an exciting portfolio lined up for the future with three new vehicles incoming: a compact MPV, a compact SUV and a 7-seater SUV.
Here’s a brief overview of these cars, including their launch timelines.
Nissan Compact MPV: To Launch In Q1 2026
The first of these three cars that is slated for launch is a compact MPV, which will arrive on our shores in the first quarter of 2026. The model is already in pre-production and is expected to share plenty of bits with the Renault Triber. A teaser from the carmaker has already given us a sneak peek at its design. Nissan’s Creta Challenger: To Launch In Mid-2026
The compact SUV segment is one of the most popular segments in India, where each and every carmaker wants a slice of the pie. To capitalise on this, Nissan India will introduce a compact SUV to challenge popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and Kia Seltos.
This model will be based on the CMF-B platform, which will also underpin the upcoming Renault Duster. Nissan has also teased this model, which features an upright fascia with a bold grille and squared-off elements, and could borrow styling elements from the bigger Nissan Patrol. Details about its features list and powertrain options are still under wraps, but the carmaker has confirmed that there won’t be a diesel engine on offer, and it could possibly introduce a few “India-first” features.
Nissan 7-Seater SUV: To Launch In Early 2027
Nissan will also have its presence felt in the midsize SUV segment with the introduction of a midsize 7-seater SUV. It will be an extended version of its Hyundai Creta challenger and is expected to launch in early 2027. Details about this model are slim at the moment, but one can expect slightly different styling and tweaks to set it apart from the 5-seater version.
India Remains A Key Market For Nissan
Vatsa also mentioned that India remains an important market for Nissan. One of the main reasons for this is exports, where the carmaker currently exports the left-hand version of the Magnite to other countries. With the introduction of these new models, it plans to further expand its export business to key markets.
The carmaker has also not given up on bringing in completely built units (CBUs) and is exploring to introduce more fully imported vehicles like the Nissan X-Trail on our shores.
These are the three new cars that will be launched by Nissan down the road. Which one has caught your eye? Let us know in the comments below.
