Tata Safari facelift teased

  • The third-generation Safari, introduced in early 2021, is set to get its first big refresh.

  • Tata to open bookings for the updated SUV on October 6.

  • To get split-LED headlights, a long LED DRL, and new 19-inch alloy wheels.

  • Its cabin will have a bigger touchscreen and a fresh 2-spoke steering wheel with backlit Tata logo.

  • Other features on board will include digital driver’s display, six airbags and ADAS.

  • Likely to be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options.

  • Could be priced at a premium over the current model (Rs 15.85 lakh to Rs 25.21 lakh ex-showroom Delhi).

It’s now been confirmed that the Tata Safari facelift will break cover soon as the carmaker shared the updated 3-row SUV’s teaser alongside that of the Tata Harrier facelift. Even the new Safari’s bookings are slated to commence from October 6.

What Is Visible?

The teaser gives us an idea of some of the changes made to the SUV’s front profile, which are similar to the revisions observed on the Tata Harrier facelift. These include the redesigned grille with inserts, sleek indicators, an elongated LED DRL strip running the width of the bonnet, and the new Tata Nexon- and Tata Nexon EV-like vertically stacked split LED headlights.

Its side and rear profiles haven’t been teased just yet, but based on numerous test mule sightings, the new Safari is likely to come with bigger 19-inch alloy wheels, dynamic turn indicators and connected LED taillights.

While no details of the SUV’s updated cabin have been revealed so far, it is also likely in for an update. Tata could provide the new Safari with a redone dashboard and a fresh 2-spoke steering wheel with the backlit Tata logo as prevalent on the new Nexon-Nexon EV duo.

The carmaker is expected to offer the facelifted Safari with a bigger touchscreen system, ventilated first- and second-row seats (latter only in 6-seater version), fully digital instrument cluster, cruise control, wireless phone charging and auto climate control. Its safety net is likely to include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX anchor points, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

What Will It Get Under The Hood?

Tata will continue offering its flagship 3-row SUV with the same 2-litre diesel engine (170PS/350Nm), with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. It is also likely to get Tata’s new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, which develops 170PS and 280Nm, with manual and DCT options.

Price And Competition

The facelifted Safari could hit showrooms sometime this November. It is likely to be priced at a premium over the current model, which retails between Rs 15.85 lakh and Rs 25.21 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new Safari will rekindle its rivalry with the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai Alcazar.
