We are just a few weeks away from the launch of 2013 Skoda Octavia, as the Media drives for the vehicle have already begun. This has also revealed most of the details about the car, However prices will only be revealed at the launch. The 2013 Octavia will come up with three different engine options- 1.8-litre turbo petrol, 2.0-litre turbo diesel and a smaller petrol 1.4-litre TSI engine.

The 1.8-litre turbo petrol engine and 2.0-litre turbo diesel engines are the same powering the existing Laura, but this time these mills are turned for more power and higher performance. The 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine is the same doing its duty to the VW Jetta, and is likely to power the base variant of the car. The 1.8-litre petrol engine is capable of churning out the maximum power output of 177bhp and 250Nm of peak torque, while the 2.0-litre diesel engine now produces 150bhp and 320Nm.

Skoda Laura which had replaced the Octavia in 2010, will also be sold alongside the later. The new Skoda Octavia is built on the parent company Volkswagen's new MQB platform on which Audi A3 and VW Golf too are based.

The new platform on which the 2013 Octavia is built, helped the car to get 90mm longer and 45mm wider than the Laura, making it more spacious and comfortable than ever. And if rumours are to be believed, despite being bigger in dimensions, the new Skoda Octavia is likely to be priced more competitive than the existing Laura; however, there is no official confirmation yet on the same. The new Octavia also has the new Skoda Logo, which will be seen on the upcoming Skoda models.

When it comes to design, the 2013 Skoda Octavia is more upmarket with the improved plastic quality, better fit and finish, much better dashboard and many more. While in terms of safety, the Octavia has been offered with some of the most advanced features including ABS, lane assistance, fatigue detection system, adaptive cruise control, nine airbgas, intelligent light assistant and traffic sign recognition. The 2013 Skoda Octavia will also be the first Skoda to get daytime running LEDs.

This is all what we have for now, stay tuned to CarDekho for all the latest updates on 2013 Skoda Octavia.
