Renault recently unveiled the all-new Kaptur, a 5-seater MPV which is pegged to be launched in India. It is a crossover and post its Indian launch, will take on the upcoming Tata Hexa, the Hyundai Tucson, the Toyota Innova Crysta and the popular Mahindra XUV500. If rumours are to be believed, the Kaptur is set to arrive on Indian shores sometime next year. The kaptur is an elongated version of the Renault Captur, which is available on sale in the International markets. The Kaptur has been recently unveiled in Russia and if it does come to India, it will be placed above the Duster.
The Kaptur is an aesthetically pleasing car. It has the typical Renault front grille and stays true to its younger sibling, the Captur, when one enters the territory of design. It is most likely based on the Duster’s platform, as the dimensions of the two are quite similar. Speaking of the exteriors, the cross has a contrasting floating roof and ‘C’-shaped daytime running LEDs along with tail lamps as the major highlights.
On the inside, despite the elongated looks, the car only seats five passengers. This might be a let-down for the Kaptur in the Indian market, for the Hexa, which is also a cross, is a 7-seater. As for the engine line-up, Renault has not yet declared anything, though the other details have been announced. It will come with an all-wheel-ride set-up and will feature a ground clearance of 204mm. This is achieved with the option of 16- or 17-inch wheels.
To name a few of its features, the Kaptur comes with a digital+analogue instrument cluster, Renault’s MediaNav 7-inch infotainment system and the new automatic climate control system. The Medianav system is well known to the Indian audiences, as it is also available in our beloved the Kwid; and the new climate control system was recently introduced in the Duster facelift.
