MG Gloster Teased With Autonomous Tech; India Launch By End Of 2020

MG Motor’s fourth offering in India is set to be the Gloster, a full-size 7-seater SUV that was showcased at Auto Expo 2020. Not many details were announced then but we now have the first official teaser for the India-spec Gloster and it seems like it’ll be equipped with some impressive technological firsts for its segment.
MG’s Gloster is already offered in various international markets under different names and badges. The India-spec teaser shows some of its technological highlights that use radar-based systems for features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and autonomous emergency braking. It is also shown to be equipped with some form of auto parking assist.
The autonomous emergency braking system detects an unexpected obstruction or stopped vehicle ahead and applies the brakes quicker than an average driver. Meanwhile, adaptive cruise control could make the Gloster an absolute dream for highway cruising as it can adjust the vehicle speed to maintain a safe distance from the car in front - slowing down if it reduces speed and accelerating to your chosen cruising speed once it pulls away again. The lane keep assist sends an alert if the car veers out of the designated lane. The international-spec version of the Gloster has secured a five-star rating in the ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) crash tests.
Since the Gloster will be looking to rival the likes of the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner, its autonomous tech is a step ahead of them. Other expected features that could be on offer include a 360-degree camera view, an 8.0-inch digital multi-info display (MID) in the instrument cluster, a 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, and leatherette upholstery.
MG is likely to offer the Gloster with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. Both are expected to be 2.0-litre engines with the petrol unit making 224PS/350Nm while the diesel could have an output of 218PS/480Nm. In international markets, the petrol engine is offered with a 6-speed auto while the diesel engine is mated to an 8-speed auto. The Gloster also comes with the option of 4WD and various driving modes.
It is expected to be launched by the end of 2020 or in January 2021. MG will likely unveil the India-spec Gloster well before that and it could be priced around the Rs 40 lakh mark.
