Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG Sport to be unveiled at 2015 Detroit Auto Show
As reported earlier, German car maker Mercedes-Benz is readying an affordable extended range of its performance-oriented AMG line-up. The new range will be seated below the standard AMG models, replicating rival brand Audi's move with its S models, and quite recently BMW with the M Performance line. The first product from this range will be based on the latest C-Class, while the following products based on CLA-Class, E-Class and GLK-Class models are still under development.
Now a latest report from an online publication claims that, Mercedes-Benz will be unveiling the first member of this lineup, the new C-Class AMG Sport model, which will most likely to be badged as C450 AMG Sport, at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show in January next year.
To be powered by an uprated version of the 3.0-liter-V6 twin-turbo engine, the already does its duty under the hood of brand's '400' models. The output from the mill will be boosted from 333 to 367 bhp, whereas the peak torque figures are expected to be close to 550 Nm. For distinguishing it from the C63 AMG, which is expected to come exclusively with rear-wheel drive( at least initially), the C450 AMG Sport will be offered with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Other than this, the car would arrive with custom calibrated chassis tuning and electronics. It would also feature exclusive interiors and styling touches. Other distinguishing features from the standard Mercedes-Benz models, will be widened tracks, similar to those used by full-blown AMG models.
The C450 AMG Sport will compete against the likes of Audi’s long-running S4, that comes with a supercharged 333bhp- 3.0-liter-V6, and BMW’s twin-scroll, single-turbo 320bhp-3.0-liter mill.
