Made-in-India Maruti Jimny 5-door Takes The Export Route

• The 3-door Jimny is being exported from India since 2020.

The 5-door Maruti Jimny was globally unveiled this year at the 2023 Auto Expo and was launched in June in India. The carmaker has been exporting many models from India over the years – including the 3-door version of the off-roader – since 2020, and now Maruti has commenced the export of the made-in-India 5-door Jimny to countries in Latin America, Middle East, and Africa. With the 5-door Jimny joining in, the carmaker now has 17 models that are exported from our shores.

Powertrain Details

The India-spec 5-door Jimny gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine that churns out 105PS and 134Nm. This engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission, with a 4-wheel-drive system as standard. Maruti will likely export the Jimny with the same powertrain option.

The carmaker also has plans to introduce an electric version of the Jimny in Europe, followed by a launch in India.

Features & Safety

It is equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an analogue instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and cruise control.

In terms of safety, the Jimny offers six airbags as standard and other features like ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist and a rear parking camera.

Price & Rivals

The 5-door Jimny is priced from Rs 12.74 lakh to Rs 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom) and is a rival to other off-roaders like the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
