Kia Sonet Emerges At The Top Of The Segment In November 2020 Sales
The segment, as a whole, witnessed a dip of over 16 percent in its month-on-month figure
The sub-4m SUV segment got a little more crowded in December with the launch of the Nissan Magnite. It continues to be a popular segment with a few models enjoying maximum sales. While Diwali 2020 saw carmakers roll out various offers on their models, demand for sub-4m SUVs took a downturn in sales compared to the last month. Here’s a look at the exact sales figures of November 2020:

Last month’s best selling SUV, the Maruti Vitara Brezza, lost a chunk of its demand with a 35 percent drop in month-on-month sales figures. As a result, it fell behind the Korean rivals once again to become the third best selling sub-4m SUV in November. Its YoY (year-on-year) figure dipped the maximum, nearly 21 percent.

The Kia Sonet has retaken the crown to become the most preferred model in November 2020 with over 11,400 units sold.

The Hyundai Venue went up a place compared to last month and took the second spot in November 2020 sales. It is the only SUV to record a positive MoM (month-on-month) growth of almost 5 percent.

Tata’s Nexon registered sales of 6,021 units in the festive month. It is the only SUV to have a positive YoY number along with the Mahindra XUV300.

Speaking of the Mahindra XUV300, the carmaker shipped over 4,400 units of the SUV in November 2020.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser’s sales number stood at 2,832 units in November, 174 units less than October 2020, a MoM decline of almost 6 percent.

Ford’s EcoSport, which has been on sale for over five years, was the SUV that created this segment here. However, it took the last spot on the November 2020 sales chart as its MoM figure dipped by over 65 percent. Its November sales figure was even lower than its average sales over the last six months.

Overall, the segment witnessed a downfall by more than 16 percent compared to October 2020.

Expect these numbers to spike in December 2020 as the Magnite has been launched at an aggressive price that could create a stir in the segment. The competition is set to get even fiercer with the Renault Kiger expected to arrive in early-2021.
