Volvo, the Swedish automobile company, is all set to introduce two new variants of 1.6 L GTDTi powertrains that are christened T3 and T4. The variants will be launched at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. These mills will be used in 2011 Volvo S60. These new innovative engines are incorporated with latest Gasoline Direct Turbocharged Injection (GDTi) that ensures higher power and torque keeping mileage level at its best. The company has kept environment concerns in mind and designed the engines in the way that it gives out lower emission.

The variable valve timing (VVT) powered engine-1.6 L GTDi T3 pumps out top power of 150 bhp and churns out a peak torque of 240 Nm. The T4 engine is more powerful in terms of power delivery; it lays out a top power of 180 bhp that is 30 bhp more than its younger sibling while it develops a max torque of 240 Nm, which rises to plus 30 Nm on overboost. The engines can be mated with either a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed powershift twin clutch unit. In order to keep its size and weight less, the engine is made of die-cast aluminium and a plastic inlet manifold.

The injector is positioned centrally and has six holes each, that ensures maximum use of every drop of fuel through automized fuel distribution. The powerplants are also designed to help quick start in cold weather. The outcome of this system is less emission and less fuel consumption.
