Volkswagen Compact Sedan

Update: There has been a lot of revamps and upgraded versions of popular car seen at the Auto Expo 2016, but the German automaker Volkswagen brought out a new model dubbed as Volkswagen Ameo. This new car would be entering the sub-4 metre compact sedan category, a segment which already has a lot of competitors in the form of Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire and Chevrolet Sail. Made for India, Volkswagen Ameo looks beautiful and will be available in two engine options including 1.2 litre diesel 3 cylinder MPI petrol and the TDI diesel with 1.5 litre capacity. Click to read more about the VW Ameo at Auto Expo.

Volkswagen’s upcoming car for the Indian market, the sub 4-meter Polo sedan, was spotted testing on the NH-4(near Pune). It is scheduled to be launched at 2016 Auto Expo. There was curiosity in the Indian auto space regarding the product as Volkswagen said that this sub 4-meter sedan is being specially designed for India. Also, there was a debate on whether this car will be a smaller Vento or a boot added Polo. From the pictures which have surfaced, the latter seems to be true. The spied vehicle, although heavily camouflaged, seems to share the taillight cluster with Polo. It will rival Dzire, Xcent, Amaze, Zest & Aspire. Seeing that the Polo hatch is priced at a higher range for its segment, this car is also expected to be priced slightly higher, if not equal to its competition.

Although there is no confirmation from the German carmaker, this sedan will most likely to borrow Polo’s engine options, which are - 1.2-liter MPI 3-Cylinder petrol and 1.5-liter TDi diesel. This would mean that the petrol option will produce around 74 bhp at 5400rpm with a torque output of 110 Nm at 3750rpm. On the other hand, diesel mill will produce around 88.8bhp at 4200rpm with a torque output of approximately 230 Nm in the range of 1500 to 2500rpm. Both of these engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual. Also, taking into account the popularity of Volkswagen’s 7-speed DSG of Vento, this car could get the dual-clutch automatic coupled with the 1.5-liter TDi. Production for this sedan will most likely take place at Volkswagen’s Chakan plant, near Pune.
