The facelifted Thar is expected to be launched in 2026 and can get some features like dual digital displays and auto AC from the bigger Thar Roxx
After being introduced in India in its new generation avatar in 2020, the 3-door Mahindra Thar is due for its first-ever midlife update. Now, a test mule of the upcoming updated SUV has been spotted testing in India, which shows the side profile and rear design. Here are the details:
What Could Be Spotted?
One thing that is immediately noticeable in the spied prototype are the boxy tail lights that get new LED elements similar to the one found in the Thar Roxx. While the wheels are clad in heavy camouflage, a new 5-spoke alloy design can be clearly seen.
Other than this, the prototype features a hardtop like the current-spec Mahindra Thar. Black door handles, that are similar to the current-spec model, can also be spotted.

Other Expected Changes
Although details are awaited, the facelifted Thar can come with a redesigned front fascia including LED headlights and a new grille design that could be similar to the 5-door Thar Roxx.
Inside, it can get a new dashboard design that is expected to be more modern-looking like its 5-door avatar. However, the black cabin theme from the current-spec 3-door model could be retained. To alleviate its premiumness, the seats can get a leatherette upholstery opposed to the fabric seats available in the currently available Thar 3-door.
Its feature suite will also be more modern and the Thar facelift is expected to borrow the dual 10.25-inch screens (one for the driver’s display and another for the infotainment) and automatic climate control from the Thar Roxx. It could also get a branded sound system than the currently-available 6 speakers. Other features like height-adjustable driver’s seat and cruise control are expected to be carried over from the current-spec model.
Its safety suite is expected to be revised with 6 airbags (as standard), a 360-degree camera, a roll cage, an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror (IRVM) and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Expected Price And Rivals
The facelifted 3-door Mahindra Thar is expected to command a slight price premium over the current-spec model that costs between Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 17.62 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). It will rival the 3-door Force Gurkha and can be an alternative to the Maruti Jimny, Mahindra Thar Roxx and 5-door Force Gurkha.
