Update: Official: Toyota Raize Will Not Launch In India

  • Toyota Raize has almost identical proportions as Daihatsu Rocky sub-4m SUV.

  • Leaked Japanese brochure shows Raize to get same interior as Rocky.

  • Safety features in the Raize include collision warning, blind-spot monitoring and more.

  • India-spec Toyota sub-4m SUV will be shared with Maruti as next-gen Brezza with Suzuki engines.

The first images of the Toyota Raize were recently leaked ahead of its unveil later in November 2019. We now get our first look of the interior along with a few more details thanks to a leaked Japanese brochure for the Raise sub-compact SUV.

The Raize seems to have the same proportions as the Daihatsu Rocky which is a sub-4m SUV but sports different styling at both ends. So, it could give Toyota an opportunity to compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport.

The dashboard of the Raize looks like the Rocky too with its freestanding touchscreen infotainment system and a semi-digital instrument cluster. The brochure also states that the Raize has a boot capacity of 369 litres which is more than what the Brezza and Venue offer.

Some of the safety features advertised in the leaked Japanese brochure suggest that the Raize would be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, collision warning and lane departure warning systems.

The Toyota Raize is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine mated to a CVT automatic and tuned to produce 98PS of power and 140Nm of torque. It might even get a four-wheel-drive version. However, an India-spec Toyota sub-4m SUV would get the same Suzuki engines as the next-gen Vitara Brezza as part of the Toyota-Suzuki joint venture.

While the Raize SUV itself is unlikely to come to India, a sub-4m SUV from Toyota shared with Maruti is expected to be launched by 2022 could be inspired by the Raize.
