Tata Nano exit makes way for ancillaries to step in Singur
Tata Motors India's largest car manufacturers introduced the People's Car “Tata Nano” which has won hearts of many. The Tata Motors has various products such as Tata Indica, Tata Vista, Tata Safari and the new crossover Tata Aria has always brought products which has time and over attracted buyers. The cheapest car in the country Tata Nano is celebrating its first year and is rejoicing with sales figures rocketing high. The revolutionary car in India offers rear wheel drive coming in 0.6 litre, 642 cc petrol engine which generates 35PS power and 48Nm torque. The dainty mini car is fuel efficient and provides enough cabin space.
Tata Motors earlier planned to set up the Tata Nano manufacturing plant in Singur which was faded away by the political parties. It was then, that Tata Motors, shifted the manufacturing unit in Gujrat, Sanand. Even though Tata Motors is keeping quiet about the lan acquisition in Singur, the site may some other investment by the automaker's ancillaries units. The buzz is strong that almost 10 ancillary units have blueprinted alternative projects to start over again in the West Bengal territory.
One of the alternative project plans has already been sent to the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) by two big ancillaries. Out of the two ancillary, one UK based unit has submitted the plan for an alternative project. The two ancillaries have jointly possessed 130 acres and it is being speculated that investment can be of more than Rs 1,000 crore. As per the souces, few giant vendors such as Supreme Treves, Lumax, Caparo Engineering are keenly interested in starting projects in Singur. The reason for setting new projects is that the geographically the land is very resourceful.
Earliar Tata Motors planned to set up the Tata Nano unit in West Bengal Singur, but the same was shelved because of political uproar. Caparo Engineering, one of the ancillary wanted to start with the sheet metal for the Tata Nano which owns 21 acres. Lumax, the leaders of head and tail lamps and Supreme Treves, expert manufacturers of plastic car accessories and 54 others are planning to start a set up of their own if Tata Motors does not wish to invest more.
