Tata’s all-new Tiago-based compact sedan has been spied undisguised. Codenamed the Kite 5 (now named the Tata Tigor), the sub-4 metre offering was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, and its launch is expected during the year end.

As the picture reveals, Kite 5’s tail section is neatly integrated with the rest of the body and it is believed to offer the best-in-class boot space. Sporting the ‘Striker Blue’ from the hatch sibling – the Tiago, the production guise has ditched the reflectors on the rear bumper, which were earlier seen on the Kite 5 displayed at the Auto Expo.

The engine options on the Kite 5 will most likely be identical to the Tiago. Powering the petrol variants would the 1.2-litre Revotron mill and the 1.05-litre Revotorq motor will work under the hood of diesel variants. Like in the Tigao, the former is said to produce a power output of 83 bhp and 114 Nm of peak torque while the latter is said to put out 69 bhp of max power and 140 Nm of peak torque. The power from these engines will be sent to the front wheels via a common five-speed manual transmission. An optional AMT(Automated Manual Transmission) will be added to the portfolio in the future.

Positioned below the Zest, the Kite 5 will be the cheapest compact sedan in the country.
