Small car Nano does big to Sanand land

Ever since the Nano project of Tata Motors was shifted from Singur near Kolkata to Sanand in Gujarat, the farmers of Gujarat have been very happy. The reason is quite clear that the shifting has caused a raise in the land prices of Sanand which have shot up to 25 times in a short period of around two years. Recently a farmer named Bharatbhai Bhikhubhai’s received a cheque of Rs 5 crore from Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation for his 10 acre land near Sanand.

To avoid any controversy, the Gujarat government has now begun buying lands from farmers at rates which are much higher than their prevalent market prices. The GIDC has taken land at Rs 1,200 per sq metre which comes to Rs 48 lakh per acre. GIDC is planning to aquire 770 hectares of Bol village for Rs 900 crore. Two years ago, the state government had offered land to Tata at Rs 890 per sq metres.

GIDC also plans to set up a big land bank of 35,000 hectares to set up 30 new GIDC estates, while expanding 15 existing ones. A government official said that out of the 35,000 hectares state-wide, 9,000 hectares are government land while the remaining of it will be bought from farmers. GIDC is working on the ‘market plus’ formula for acquiring land at other places like Halol and Dahej in Gujarat.

A senior official said that the market price of the land is considerably lower than in Sanand district. At the other places like In Dahej, the land is being taken at 175 per sqm. Bharatbhai, the farmer said that all the farmers of the village have unanimously taken the decision for selling their land to GIDC because the government is offering very good rates which has changed their lives. The farmers of Sanand are planning on how to invest this money for their future.
