Skoda Rapid Automatic Most Affordable In Its Segment, Prices Start At Rs 9.49 lakh

Rapid’s BS6 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine now offered with a choice of 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

New 6-speed AT is available from second-to-base Rider Plus onwards, priced from Rs 9.49 lakh to Rs 13.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Skoda Rapid was launched with a new BS6 petrol engine to replace its BS4 petrol and diesel engines earlier this year. However, it has only been available with a manual transmission until now. Skoda has now launched the automatic variants of the BS6 Rapid across all trims except base-spec Rider. Its ex-showroom prices are listed below:

The Rapid’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (110PS/175Nm) engine now gets the choice of a 6-speed torque convertor automatic in place of the quick-shifting DSG automatic that was offered on the BS4 diesel model. However, the discontinued 1.6-litre petrol also had a torque converter option. The automatic variant offers an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency figure of 16.24kmpl which is 2kmpl less than the claimed fuel efficiency of the manual variant.

Skoda’s entry-level offering in India is equipped with features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, auto AC, upto 4 airbags, rain-sensing wipers and cruise control. The Rapid is one of the most affordable offerings in its segment thanks to the low pricing of the Rider and Rider Plus variants. Now, the Rapid Rider Plus AT is the most affordable automatic option in this segment. However, the affordability of the Skoda comes with a dated exterior and cabin design compared to its Asian rivals.
The Rapid continues to rival the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Vento.
