Maruti India’s Growth Slumped by 5% in May 2012
The biggest car maker of the country, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. has been facing a bit of slowdown in terms of sales and also lot lost some market share in the auto industry in recent past. The total sales including the domestic and exports for the year 2011-12 till may witnessed a dip of 1 percent in comparison the year previous to that. The story doesn’t seem to have ended and the company has registered a slump of 5 percent from 104073 units to 98884 units in the total sales just in the month of May 2012 against May 2011. On bifurcating the total sales into domestic and export figures it can be seen that exports faced more depreciation of 10.9 percent in growth as compared to the domestic sales which faced a drop of 4.3 percent only.
The month of May 2012 was a mixed one in terms of segment wise sales; on one hand the Utilities segment that includes the Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Gypsy and Maruti Ertiga MPV witnessed a whopping growth of 603 percent from 1100 units in May 2011 to 7734 untis in May 2012. On the other hand, the passenger vehicle segment that includes the mini cars like Alto, Wagon R etc, compact cars like Maruti swift, Estilo and Ritz, super compact car like Swift Dzire, mid-sized sedan like Maruti SX4 and executive sedan like Kizashi has witnessed a drop in the total sales of 5.9 percent from 76874 units to 72309 units.
