The upcoming seven-seater replacement for the XUV500 will be launched around August 2021

  • That production will begin in July this year is hinted at by a recent image from Mahindra’s Pune plant.

  • The XUV700 could get a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking.

  • Will be powered by the Thar’s 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, but in a higher state of tune.

  • All-wheel-drive (AWD) will be optional.

  • Will rival the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and Tata Safari.

Courtesy of a recent image from Mahindra’s Pune plant, we are expecting the carmaker to commence production of the XUV700 by July 2021. The long-delayed seven-seater SUV should be launched by August this year.

While Mahindra XUV700 will replace the ageing XUV500, the latter will be relaunched going forward as a five-seater rival to the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The XUV700 will get a three-row seating configuration, new petrol and diesel engines, and a whole new level of technology.

Going by its spy shots, the SUV could get an integrated setup for the digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, flush door handles, LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and a flat-bottom steering wheel.

More importantly, the SUV will feature Level 1 autonomous driver assistance technology, which should include autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and maybe adaptive cruise control.

The Mahindra XUV700 will be provided with the Thar’s petrol and diesel engines, but in a higher state of tune. For reference, the off-roader is powered by 150PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engines. The XUV700 should get 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions with both engines. There will also be a segment-first optional all-wheel drive (AWD) on offer.

The existing XUV500 retails from Rs 15.44 lakh to Rs 19.96 lakh. The upcoming XUV700 will likely demand a premium, and we expect it to be priced from Rs 16 lakh all the way up to Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the Hyundai Alcazar, MG’s Hector Plus and the Tata Safari
