The Mahindra Vision S concept made its debut this Independence day. It’s a sub-4m SUV prototype which, out of all 4 concepts unveiled, expected to enter the series production first. It has a traditional boxy SUV silhouette and looks like a baby version of the Mahindra Scorpio N. Let’s check out how the exterior and interior design of the Vision S concept compares to that of the Scorpio N.

Front

Just like the Mahindra Scorpio N, the Vision S concept also has an upright SUV stance. The grille on the Vision S also looks inspired from the Scorpio N, however, it gets horizontal slates. Other details on the Vision S includes pixel LED lights with vertical LED DRLs engrossed into inverted L-shaped housing. The bumper has been blacked out and integrates pixel LED fog lights on either side, and a prominent silver skid plate in between.

The Mahindra Scorpio N, on the other hand, features a grille with 6 vertical chrome slats and LED projector headlights, while the C-shaped DRLs surround the fog lights on the bumper. A silver skid plate is also positioned beneath the bumper of the Scorpio N.

Side

In profile, the Vision S concept looks heavily inspired from the Land Rover Defender SUV, not just with its boxy silhouette but also because of the jerry can placed on the right C-pillar. A ladder has also been provided on the left C-pillar. Compared to the Scorpio N, the body cladding on the Vision S looks chunkier, and it stands on dual-tone alloy wheels.

The Mahindra Scorpio N also carries a traditional boxy SUV stance but comes with a 3-row layout. The window beltline and door handles are finished in chrome, while the side door moulding and roof rails get a silver finish for a more premium touch. Adding to its rugged appeal is the black body cladding along the sides. The Scorpio N rides on 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

Rear

What really makes the Vision S concept stand out is its tailgate-mounted spare wheel. It also features pixel LED tail lights with vertical LED elements integrated into the inverted L-shaped housing. Additional vertical lighting elements are placed over the spare wheel mount, while the spare wheel cover carries the ‘Vision S’ branding. Further adding to its utilitarian appeal is the blacked-out bumper which also integrates a prominent silver skid plate.

The Scorpio N looks rather conventional from the rear compared to the Vision S concept. It has vertically stacked LED tail lights and a black bumper which integrates a chrome garnish and silver skid plate.

Interior

From the inside, the Vision S concept looks more evolved compared to the Scorpio N. The highlights is its integrated dual screen setup (one for the infotainment and the other for the digital driver’s display), divided by protruding split-triangular AC vents. It has a 3-spoke steering wheel with ‘Vision S’ lettering on the horn pad. The Mahindra Scorpio N, on the other hand, features a dual-tone brown and black interior theme with a more upright dashboard layout. It gets vertical AC vents and a 3-spoke steering wheel with a ‘twin peak’ Mahindra logo on the horn pad.

While the Vision S boasts dual-tone navy blue and black leatherette seat upholstery, the seats inside the Scorpio N are upholstered in brown and black leatherette.

Other features on board the Vision S include wireless phone charger, electronic parking brake with auto-hold functionality. In contrast, the Mahindra Scorpio N comes with an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone AC, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, and a 12-speaker Sony sound system. Passenger safety is taken care of by 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold control, hill descent control, driver drowsiness detection, front and rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Powertrain

Since the new Nu IQ platform, which underpins the Vision S concept, supports the multiple powertrains, the Vision S is expected to be offered in both ICE (internal combustion engine) and EV versions. The Scorpio N on other hand comes with petrol and diesel engine options:
